Do you get picked up for the safari?

All our safaris include a pick-up at your cabin or hotel as long as it is in the Äkäslompolo village area. If you require a pickup from further afield, an additional transfer fee will be added to the safari price. It is also possible to meet at our safari house. All times and meeting info will be included in your booking confirmation.

How do you pay?

We accept the most common cards and cash.

Do I need a driving licence on a snowmobile safari?

Generally you need to be over eighteen years old and have a valid driving licence to drive a car or a motorcycle. The information contained in a foreign driving licence must be in the Latin alphabet and indicate the right to drive or there must be a translation of the information by a reliable party, such as an authorised translator, into Finnish, Swedish, English, German, French or Spanish. Please NOTE! It is required that you carry your driving licence with you when driving a snowmobile.

Do I drive my own snowmobile on the safari?

On our snowmobile safaris you can choose from two options – share a snowmobile or drive single.

Can children sit on the snowmobile?

According to the law, the feet of a passenger riding a snowmobile must reach the side boards of the snowmobile. Those shorter than this travel in a snowmobile sleigh that is behind our guide’s snowmobile. Our longest snowmobile safaris and those that cross the fells do not have the option of travelling in a sleigh.

How do children travel on the dog sled safari?

On husky safaris, children travel in a sleigh alone or with an adult, depending on the size of your party. People under the age of 18 cannot drive the dog sled themselves.

Can I come to the reindeer or husky farm by my own car?

You can only visit the reindeer and husky farms as part of an organised group.

Can I join if I am pregnant?

Our snowmobile and husky safaris are not suitable for pregnant women due to the vibrations of uneven tracks and the exhaust fumes from the snowmobiles.

Can I join if I am in a wheelchair?

If you are comfortable sitting on a sledge, you can participate on the following safaris:
– Snow what
– Nature watching tour
– Maybe the Northern Lights
– Reindeer ride in the wilderness
– Husky farm visit and sleigh ride

What if I am late for pick up?

The safari starting time is when the whole group is clothed and ready to go. Although we will do our best to contact you to find out what is happening, unfortunately we cannot keep the whole group waiting for late arriving guests or no shows.

How long is the winter season?

The winter season starts at the beginning of December and lasts until mid or end of April, depending on snow conditions.

Will it be dark in the evenings?

In the middle of winter in Lapland the sun can only be seen for a couple of hours during the day. We encourage you to take part on our excursions in the dark time of the day too. The wintry forest is mystical in the dusk and dark. Here are some approximate examples of the sunrise-sunset times in Äkäslomplo:
Mid December 11.50 – 12.50
Mid January 10.50 – 14.20
Mid February 08.40 – 16.40
Mid March 06.45 – 18.20

Do I see Northern Lights?

Since the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and don’t have a timetable, we can never guarantee that they will be visible. We always carry on with the safaris regardless of the weather, because it can change very fast here in Lapland. We do not refund the safaris in the event that the Northern Lights are not visible.

What if it is cold outside?

We rarely cancel our safaris due to cold weather. If the weather is very cold, we recommend that you do not use any lotions or moisturisers on your face! Extra layers of clothing will help to keep you warm.
